What a British address looks like
Example:
Ion Popescu · Flat 3 · 27 Station Road · Harrow · HA1 2AB
On the parcel, write each part on a separate line:
- the recipient’s name;
- “Flat” and the flat number, if they live in a block or a converted house;
- the house number and street name;
- the town;
- the postcode.
Address words explained (for Romanian speakers)
| Word | Romanian |
|---|---|
| Flat | apartament |
| House / Cottage | casă (sometimes a house has a name instead of a number) |
| Road, Street, Avenue, Lane, Close | stradă, alee, fundătură |
| Postcode | cod poștal |
Why the postcode matters so much
In the UK, the same street name – “Station Road” or “High Street”, for example – exists in hundreds of places. The postcode pinpoints the area, and its second half (for example “2AB”) narrows the address down to a handful of houses. Without it, delivery may be delayed or even fail.
How to find the postcode
- It’s printed on any letter received at that address (bills, bank letters, NHS letters).
- You can look it up on Royal Mail – Postcode Finder.
- You can ask the recipient directly.
Common mistakes
- No flat number: the parcel reaches the building, but we don’t know whose bell to ring.
- A mistyped postcode (the number 0 instead of the letter O, or the other way round).
- No phone number for the recipient.
When you book with us, you can enter the postcode directly in the calculator, and we check it before delivery.
