Moving from the UK to Romania: we bring your household home

How the move works

1. Send us a WhatsApp message or call us. Tell us what you need to move, from where and to where. Photos help us judge the volume.
2. You get a quote. We tell you the price and agree the collection day together.
3. We collect from your UK address. We need the full address with postcode (for example “M14 5AB”), the floor and whether there’s a lift.
4. We deliver to your new address in Romania. We call you before we arrive.

What we can move

• boxes of clothes, kitchenware, books and personal belongings;
• small or flat-packed furniture: chairs, tables, dismantled wardrobes, shelves;
• household appliances and TVs;
• bikes, scooters, pushchairs;
• suitcases and luggage.

If you have something very large or very heavy, tell us beforehand and we’ll confirm whether we can take it.

Customs when moving from the UK

Since Brexit, the UK is no longer in the European Union, so goods entering Romania from the UK may involve customs formalities.

If you are moving your residence to Romania, your personal belongings may be exempt from customs duty (Regulation (EC) No 1186/2009). The main conditions are:

• you have lived outside the European Union for at least 12 months in a row;
• the belongings are yours and you have used them for at least 6 months before the move;
• you will use them the same way in your new home in Romania;
• you bring them within 12 months of moving to Romania.

Alcoholic drinks, tobacco and items used for your trade (other than portable tools) are not covered. The paperwork and details are on the Romanian Customs Authority website and in the text of the regulation. If you’re not sure what applies to you, ask us on the phone.

Before you leave the UK

• Your home. Give your landlord or letting agent the notice your tenancy requires and agree the day you hand back the keys.
• Council tax. Tell your local council the date you move out so you stop paying after you leave.
• Contracts. Close electricity, gas, water, broadband and phone in good time; some have a notice period.
• What you leave behind. Sell or donate what you no longer need. Many councils collect bulky furniture, by appointment.

How to prepare your belongings

• Put small things in strong cardboard boxes and seal them well.
• Take furniture apart where you can and tape the screws in a bag to the piece.
• Drain the washing machine and tape appliance doors shut.
• Number the boxes and write your name and Romanian phone number on them.
