How to pack a parcel for transport
A few simple rules so your parcel arrives in one piece after a long journey between Romania and the UK.
Choose a good box
- Use a strong cardboard box, ideally a new one. Boxes that have been used several times go soft and tear.
- The box should be the right size: not too big (things move around), not too small (it bulges).
- Don’t use bags or sacks for anything that can break.
Fill the gaps
Things inside the box shouldn’t move. Fill the empty space with scrunched-up paper, bubble wrap or soft clothes.
Protect fragile items
- Wrap each fragile item separately.
- Put heavy things at the bottom and light ones on top.
- Jars and bottles: closed tightly, wrapped and standing upright. Put them in a bag too, in case they leak.
Seal and label
- Tape all the edges well with wide tape, top and bottom.
- Write the recipient’s name and phone number large and clearly. For the UK, add the postcode.
- If you’re sending several boxes, number them: 1 of 3, 2 of 3, 3 of 3.
What not to put in
Check the prohibited items list before you close the box.
